Our artisan winemakers uphold a deep and abiding respect for our precious soil, using sustainable practices and biodiverse sites exclusive to the famous Adelaide Hills and McLaren Vale wine growing regions. At the heart of Monterra are the relationships we’ve built over many decades with small family-run vineyards, where we source superior fruit to produce our rich and elegant traditional varietals. We turn their hard work in the vineyard into exceptional wine, for us it’s deeply personal, for you it’s outstanding flavour.

Monterra takes wine production seriously and we want to do the right things where we can. As winemakers, we are part of a broad agricultural community in the Australian wine industry and many families depend upon our business for work, social identity, and connection to the Earth.
When we grow and purchase fruit, produce wine and take it to market, we consider the environmental, social and economic influence we have, and we do care about improving how we do wine. Some of the things we do;

- We source fruit from a wide range of growers and regions, supporting a wide economic supply chain (and a lot of families),
- We pay all of our grape growers on time (believe us when we say this is not always the case…!),
- We have a minimum input viticulture approach in our estate vineyards, and many of our grape growers employ sustainable practices in their vineyards.
- We actively encourage this, Our wines are fined with plant based fining agents (not egg, milk or fish by-products) so they are all 100% vegan and vegetarian friendly,
- Our wine cartons are made from 100% recycled materials, Where possible we are attempting to source recyclable label stocks from our suppliers,
- We want to behave ethically, treat our staff and customers with respect and choose suppliers who do the right thing, As a small business, we are always looking at ways we can improve and we remain open to new ideas,
- We have chosen an Australian made bottle for our core ranges that weighs 416 grams against an industry average 500g bottle. This 84g saving amounts to 52kg in weight for each pallet of wine we ship domestically or overseas. This is a small contribution to reducing our Carbon footprint and we are looking closely to see where else we can make a positive difference.
